GWEN STACY sits in the back seat, panel right. We can see the back of her head - black hair band and blonde hair.

A detachable police siren sits on the dashboard. We can see a police radio in the centre of the dashboard.
We see a Brooklyn street through the front window, streetlights illuminating the night.

Spider-man:  Uhh... hi. Really sorry, still getting into the swing of this. You've got third party, spider and theft, right?

Panel 1 - PETER PARKER stands on a fluffy cloud against an unnaturally blue sky.  His hands are in his pockets as he looks at his shoes.

PETER:  So...

PETER:  This isn't so bad...

PETER:  ...aside from the fact that Otto is living my life...

Panel 2 - From over PETER's shoulder, we see GWEN STACY, standing in front of the gates of Heaven, in a very John Romita, Sr. type way, in the exact outfit she wore when she died.  She is glowing and beautiful.

PETER:  (happily surprised) Gwen!!

GWEN:  - - You hit the jackpot.

GWEN:  I just talked to "You know who", and guess what?


Panel 3 - Close-up, GWEN's lips to PETER's ear.

GWEN:  It's gone too far.

GWEN:  (small lettering) You have to go back!

Gwen Stacy - What If? - Niel Jacoby

This takes place in an alternate universe where Spider-Man saved Gwen, instead of accidentally killing her.

Panel 1: Peter and Gwen are sitting together in Central Park, watching a 4th of July fireworks display. They're both enjoying it, but they've also got something on their minds.

Peter: GWEN-

Gwen: NOT NOW, PETER. I KNOW WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT, BUT NOT NOW, OK?

Panel 2: We see Gwen and Peter in silhouette from behind as the fireworks burst in the air.

Peter: ALRIGHT.

Gwen: YEAH, PETER. JUST GREAT.

Gwen Stacy - Tales From the Refrigerator! - J.D. Coughlan

Panel 1: Inside the evil lair of The Misogynist, who looks like a typical wannabe "alpha male"; fat, unshaven, slovenly, dressed in sweats and, appropriately, a wife-beater shirt. He laughs maniacally while an attractive young woman dangles from a rope above a vat of acid. The Misogynist addresses a square-jawed young man, who is tied up and forced to watch.

MISOGYNIST: MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

MISOGYNIST: You will now be forced to watch your girlfriend suffer horribly; thus improving your character development at the expense of her own!

Panel 2: Part of the wall explodes inwards, revealing Gwen Stacy, Alex DeWitt, Karen Page and Sue Dibny, standing in Charlie's Angels style poses. Gwen points dramatically to the (off-panel) Misogynist.

GWEN: Not so fast, Misogynist!

MISOGYNIST (O.P.): Blast! It's the Dead Girlfriends Squad!

Panel 3: Gwen high-kicks the Misogynist in the face, while Sue and Karen help the girl down, and Alex unties the guy.

MISOGYNIST: OOFFT!

SFX: FEMINISM!

Panel 4: The Dead Girlfriends Squad stands with arms over each others shoulders, along with the guy and girl, all smiling, like the last shot of an 80s sitcom episode. The Misogynist sits on the floor, tied up, looking defeated and angry.

MISOGYNIST: (small) Grumble, grumble, make me a sandwich...

GWEN: Remember, everyone, using female characters as nothing more than emotional collateral for the male characters is sexist, and ultimately one of the major causes of low female readership in comics. However, sometimes it is justifiable in context, and basing an opinion on nothing more than gender is also detrimental to the cause of equality.

GWEN: Also, sometimes lazy writing is just lazy writing.

ALL: (except Misogynist) HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The underneath of the bridge is covered in thick spiders webbing, and thousands of flowers hang from every part of the web.

Gwen Stacy – What If…The Spectacular Spider-Woman?! – MK Stangeland Jr.

(This scene takes place in the “Spider-Web”, a ‘secret base’ that has been set up in part of an abandoned building away from where Gwen Stacy lives.)

Panel 1: GWEN STACY is sitting on a table wearing her SPIDER-WOMAN costume (which looks mostly like the normal SPIDER-MAN costume, but tailored to fit a woman rather than a man), except her mask is off and in her hand. Assorted SCIENCE(!) equipment is sitting on the table near her.

She’s looking to where PETER PARKER is seated in a chair nearby as he is carefully working on something. He looks very much in line with versions of PARKER we’ve seen from prior to when he got his SPIDER-BITE, including that he’s still wearing his glasses (since here, he still needs them)

TEXT BOX: Meanwhile…

PETER: Mr. Jameson called again today. Tried to change my mind again.

GWEN: You still told him ‘no’, right?

PETER: Of course I did.

Panel 2: PETER PARKER looks up from his work and faces GWEN STACY. GWEN as an ‘EW’ look on her face, complete with tightly closed eyes and her tongue sticking out.

GWEN (1): Good. As long as he wants to keep calling me names, he’s not allowed to have any of my pictures.

GWEN (2): Your pictures?

PETER (1): Our pictures?

PETER (2): It was tempting, though. Practically doubled his offer.

GWEN (3): Glad to know I can count on you, Petey.

Panel 3: PETER PARKER holds up a web-shooter for GWEN STACY. GWEN looks happy by what PETER is telling her.

PETER (1): Speaking of which, I think I’ve got the new design working.

PETER (2): This one has an automatic reloading system so you don’t have to manually change cartages as often.

Panel 4: GWEN STACY holds the web-shooter in her hands, she looks VERY pleased by the news. PETER PARKER is leaning into his hand and looking at GWEN with a dreamy-eyed look.

GWEN: Mr. Parker, have I ever told you what a godsend you are?

PETER: I’m just happy to help.

Panel 5: GWEN STACY looks at PETER PARKER and gives him one of those ‘don’t be so modest’ looks and hand-only waves. PETER is sitting up at attention.

GWEN (1): I’m serious, Peter.

GWEN (2): I may have figured out how to make the web fluid on my own, but between school, being a hero, sneaking away from daddy, trying to maintain some kind of social life, and everything else, I don’t think I ever would have had time to design the shooters, let alone build them.

Panel 6: GWEN STACY is giving both an eye roll.

PETER: It’s a miracle you manage to balance it all.

GWEN (1): UGH!

GWEN (2): Daddy is the worst of it. I can only imagine how he’d react if he knew his precious little girl and the infamous ‘Spider-Woman’ were the same person.

Tight on one of Wolverine’s claws held in front of his face as he grits his teeth, seconds away from one of his berserker rages.

CAPTION: It wraps itself around a man and his most primal urges.

Tight on a discarded blood-soaked sai as it lies discarded on a New York sidewalk.

CAPTION: A boot pushing a man deep into the mud of his own despair.

CAPTION: But for some...

In the background we can see the Hudson river and the New York skyline, water towers and skyscrapers spread out before us. In the foreground of the panel we can see a webline stretched from the top of the panel to the bottom.

Gwen Stacy - Anniversary - Ben Rosenthal

1.  A shot of Gwen Stacy’s tombstone at night.  A shadow is cast across it.

2.  Reverse of Panel 1.  The shadow revealed to be that of Peter Parker looking down with sorrow.

3.  Back to the framing of Panel 1, with flowers being placed on Gwen’s grave.

4.  Reverse panel once more.  Peter is walking away, head down and hands in his pockets.

Why Gwen Stacy?

There use to be a rule in comics – you can bring anyone back from the dead apart from Bucky, Uncle Ben and Jason Todd.  Yeah, that rule didn't last long.

I would like to hypothesise a new rule – you can bring anyone back, but shouldn't bring back Uncle Ben or Gwen Stacy. 

Gwen was THE girl for Peter Parker. Smart and beautiful, theirs was a classic high school romance, and even though they had their ups and downs everyone could tell they would be together forever.  Even Norman could see it.  Kidnapping Gwen to lure Spider-Man out for a final confrontation he knocked her off the top of the Brooklyn Bridge.  In a desperate attempt to save her Spidey shot a web, catching Gwen by the ankle as she fell.  However the sudden change in motion also caused Gwen’s neck to snap posing the question that many have had for the decades since – did the force of the Goblin hitting Gwen off the bridge at a fast pace kill her, or was it Spidey’s own webbing that sealed her fate?

Either way the Death of Gwen Stacy was the first time a major character died in the comics medium.  It is known as being the comic that ended the Golden Age of comics, and also lead to the original death of Norman Osborn.

What do the tenured writers have in store for Ms Stacy this week?  Will they show how they would bring her back? Keep her dead or flash back in time?
